General Reflection

This composition turn out to be a bit more spacey and futuristic as I began to ad and alter instruments, sounds, and samples throughout the process. It could be used well in the soundtrack to an intergalactic video game. It reminds me of me old favorite video game called “Ratchet And Clank” in which fictional characters travel throughout space, and time. I could imagine it softly playing in the background during a boss battle, or during a wormhole space ship loading screen.

Rhythm/Bass

The drum and bass sound transformed a bit from the previous project. I made more groovy, while changing the sounds so they unintentionally melted more with the interstellar, soft theme that it was turning into. The bass melody is enough to get you to move, while also staying subtle enough to sit in the background of whatever the main focus may be, which in my vision may be a wacky main character smashing slimy cyborgs with a wrench. Likewise, the drums are groovy making you want to find the soundtrack and listen to it on it’s own for your enjoyment. The bass line closely sets the chord of the key and sometimes creates an inversion by landing on the third.

Harmony/Melody

The first section is in Cm (Cm Fm GM7 DM) which gives a feel of mystery and almost a struggle. It reminds me of battle as the instruments slowly build up into the full ensemble. The full picture comes together during the second section where it changes to the relative A major (AM FM GM). During this section I imagine a new discovery is made as more instruments and motives are introduced. The melody remains the same shape from section to section, while changing a few notes to fit the new key. The section eventually modulates back down to Cm giving the feeling of a conclusion with the new texture being an addition to musical vignette.

Audio/Synth/Sampler

My audio recording on track 45 is me clapping into the microphone. I recorded multiple takes and picked a single sample that I liked and repeated it. It is an accent percussion element to add texture. My synth 1 (Track 46) uses ES1 and synth 2 (Track 46) uses ES P. Synth 1 adds weight to the harmony in the second section. Synth 2 is only used as an accent periodically throughout the second section. The sample (Track 48) is a bell that mirrors the melody but in a different octave.

Processing

A compressor added to the clap (Track 45) to make the clap sound more prominent. Auto filter added to chords (Track 40) alters the sound of the instrument and adds more of a round covered sound. EnVerb is used on aux track (Clap Reverb) via bus 11 which adds space to the clap (and the sampler Track 48). A chorus was added to Synth 1 (Track 46) that adds more dynamics and depth to the sound.
